Leads Are Not Enrolments: Growth Lessons from Running Glowell Education

Glowell Poster by Fakir masood

I’m the CEO of Glowell Education, a distance education centre in Kerala with more than 3,500 students and partnerships with over 100 universities and institutions. We use digital marketing, mainly Meta ads, to reach new students. The biggest lesson from growing it is simple, and it took me a while to accept: a lead is not an enrolment.

Cheap leads can be expensive

It is easy to get lead forms filled on Meta. A one-tap form and a tempting headline bring in plenty of names and phone numbers at a low cost per lead, and the dashboard looks great. Then the calls start, and many of those people don’t remember filling in the form, aren’t eligible, or were never serious.

So the number that matters is not cost per lead. It is cost per enrolment: total spend divided by the students who actually joined and paid.

The funnel between the ad and the enrolment

For an education business, the real journey looks like this:

Ad → lead form → first call or WhatsApp → counselling → documents → payment → enrolment

Every arrow is a place where people drop out. The ad controls only the first step. Growth comes from fixing the rest.

What makes the biggest difference

Speed to lead

Interest fades quickly. Someone contacted within minutes of filling in a form is far more likely to continue than someone called the next day. Fast follow-up is one of the cheapest improvements any lead-based business can make.

Qualifying on the form

Adding a couple of honest questions to the form, such as the course they want and their current qualification, lowers the number of leads but raises their quality. Fewer, better leads save the counselling team hours every week.

WhatsApp as the main channel

In Kerala and across the Gulf, people answer WhatsApp far more readily than calls from unknown numbers. Starting the conversation there, with a clear message about who we are and why we are reaching out, builds trust from the first touch.

Content that answers the real doubts

Prospective students ask the same questions again and again. Is the certificate recognised? Can I pay in instalments? How do exams work if I am abroad? Ads and posts that answer these directly bring in better leads than generic “enrol now” creative.

Tracking every stage

If you only track leads and final enrolments, you can’t see where people drop off. Tracking each stage, even in a simple CRM or spreadsheet, shows whether the problem is the ad, the follow-up or the offer.

The wider lesson

Marketing brings attention. Systems turn that attention into growth. It is the thinking behind most of what I do now, from client campaigns to the software we build at Orions360: the ad is only the start of the funnel, and most of the growth is hidden in what happens after someone says “I’m interested”. The campaign side of that work is in this Meta Ads case study, and it is the same approach I bring to client campaigns.
